You Can Get to Know the Locals Really Well

What people who never travel unaccompanied usually fail to realise is that is is possible go off to far-flung destinations and not only superficially meet people from other cultures who speak different languages, but to actually get to know them on a personal level; to find out who they are, what they love, what their culture is like, and make firm friends for life. This is perhaps the best thing about travelling solo and there are lots of good things to choose from!

It’s Easy to Make Friend as You Travel

If you’ve been too scared to go travelling alone because you’re worried that you’ll get too lonely, you really shouldn’t because it’s so easy to pick up friends who are also travelling solo along the way. Whether you choose to embark upon cycling holidays for singles or something like that or you truly travel alone with no plan at hand and no way of knowing if you’ll meet anyone interesting along the way, you can guarantee that other solo travellers will spot you and invite you to share a beer or head to the local museum together. Solo travellers are a friendly bunch and if you want company, you will be able to have it.

Being Alone is Relaxing

Although it’s perfectly possible to relax when you’re in good company, when you can do exactly what you want when you want; when you don’t have to compromise and do things your friends would like, rather than what you really want to do; when you have time to truly think about and appreciate your surroundings, you can really kick back and relax. Solo travel is probably one of the best things you can do to de-stress, boost your self-esteem and get happy.

You Have More Freedom

When you travel alone you have the freedom to be exactly who you want to be. You can be the wild party animal in Thailand and the cool new age chick in India and no one will know the difference, which means that if you fancy a change or you want to experiment, you can do so without having to explain yourself to anyone.

It Makes You More Courageous

Flying all over the globe on your own, not always knowing what you’re going to find there, having to converse with people in different languages, navigating unfamiliar territory - all of these things will make you more courageous, far more self-reliant and so much more confident than you have ever been, It can be totally transformative.

Travelling alone might seem truly terrifying, but it enhances your life in so many ways that everyone should do it at least once in their lives!
